EASTON, Pa. – Residents in Northampton County felt the aftermath of sleet and freezing rain from the massive snowstorm that slammed the region and beyond.

“Yeah, this is a blast,” said Mikus Matiss, a longtime resident of Easton.

Snowblowers were dusted off and snowplows worked overtime.

Footprints, pawprints and snowballs were left behind.

“I’m going to build a big snowman in the circle,” said Matiss.

Crayola in Easton to close Monday due to weather

Residents in the heart of the city of Easton made the most of the storm.

“And if anybody sees that, that’s me. I did that,” said Matiss.

Strolling around Centre Square, Matiss said he’s turning frigid into fun.

“I jumped head first into a snow thing earlier,” said Matiss.

In fact, it runs in the family.

“We’re Canadian. We’re born for this,” said Tija Matiss, also a longtime resident of Easton.

The brother and sister said the city has been left with the perfect amount of snow.

“Anything more, we might be inside,” said Tija.

Resident Dan Maas joins the duo for some fresh air.

“This is my second walk of the day. I was out earlier for like two hours, went down to the river. Check that out. It doesn’t snow this much, I figure, enjoy it a little bit,” said Maas, who’s lived in Easton nearly two decades.

Meanwhile, sunny South Carolina native Brooklynn said that no amount of snow will stop her from her favorite pick-me-up.

“Getting coffee,” she said.

“Will you trudge through the snow to get coffee?” asked 69 News Reporter Cierra Genelle.

“Yeah,” said Brooklynn.

“Why is that?” asked Genelle.

“I don’t know. I just love it so much,” Brooklynn said.

She said she’s only lived in Easton for a few months.

Will one of the largest storms our region has seen have her traveling back down south?

“I’m loving it. I know a lot of people are, like, tired of it and ready to get the snowplows out and have it all be cleaned up, but I’m loving it,” said Brooklynn.

Easton officials said the city remains in a snow emergency until Tuesday.

People are urged to stay off the roads.
