BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A powerful winter storm blasted the Lehigh Valley on Sunday, blanketing roads, closing the airport and covering the region with more than a foot of snow.

The heavy snowfall ended Sunday night, though a cold weather advisory remains.

The storm dropped a record-setting 11.8 inches of snow on Lehigh Valley International Airport, breaking the old record of 10.4 inches for the date set in 1988.

Some areas saw 12 to 17 inches of snow across the Valley.

Cold weather advisory

A cold weather advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Wednesday, with wind chills of 5 to 10 degrees below zero expected.

The advisory covers parts of east central and southeast Pennsylvania, along with parts of central, northern and northwest New Jersey.

Extensions to the advisory are expected, according to the weather service, and could be upgraded to an extreme cold warning for Wednesday night and/or Thursday night.

Wind chills below zero and even 10 below zero are likely to continue into the weekend, the weather service said.
