The Eagles are promoting safeties coach Joe Kasper to defensive backs coach/defensive passing game coordinator, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network first reported the news.

Kasper will replace Christian Parker, who left the Eagles last week to become the new defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. Kasper seemed like an obvious choice to replace him.

In fact, when defensive back Cooper DeJean was praising Parker at locker cleanout day, he mentioned Kasper unprompted.

“[Parker has] poured a lot into me and Q too, ever since we got here,” DeJean said. “And I appreciate him for that. And not everybody notices him and he doesn’t get the recognition that I think he should. Him and coach (Joe) Kasper, what those guys mean to us in the DB room and how they coach, the intensity they bring, the passion they have for the game. It means a lot to us and doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Kasper rejoined the Eagles under Vic Fangio for the 2024 season and has served as the safeties coach for the past two years. He was the safeties coach in Miami under Vic Fangio in 2023 and then Fangio brought him back to Philly.

From 2021-2022, Kasper was a defensive quality control coach and he must have caught the eye of Fangio, who took him to Miami. Before joining the Eagles, Kasper was a graduate assistant at Duke from 2018-2020 and a wide receivers coach at John Carroll in 2017. From 2013-14, Kasper was a player personnel and development assistant with the Cleveland Browns.

The Eagles in 2026 will bring back some studs in their secondary with Quinyon Mitchell and DeJean. They’ll also bring back safety Drew Mukuba for his second NFL season. But there are some questions beyond that at the other outside corner position and the other safety position. Reed Blankenship, Marcus Epps and Adore’ Jackson are all pending free agents.
