The South Philly Book Crawl Returns This February Featuring Stops at South Street’s Best Bookstores

Romance readers and indie bookstore lovers have a new February tradition to mark on their calendars. The South Philly Book Crawl returns for a weekend-long celebration of storytelling, small businesses, and neighborhood history, taking place Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8, 2026, with tours beginning at 12:00 PM each day.
Hosted by Pier Players Theater Co., the Book Crawl invites guests to stroll through the South Street District, discovering beloved local bookstores while competing for book-themed prizes along the way. It’s part literary adventure, part neighborhood walk, and part love letter to South Philly’s independent shops.
The experience is led by Julianne Kastner, a member of Pier Players and a Philadelphia history tour guide for the past five years. The crawl blends her passion for site-specific history with her enthusiasm for supporting small businesses, creating a guided experience that’s both informative and delightfully bookish.
Stops along the crawl include local favorites such as Garland of Letters Bookstore, Headhouse Books, Atomic Comics, and additional surprise locations. Each stop offers a chance to browse, shop, and learn more about the role these bookstores play in the cultural fabric of the neighborhood.
Beyond celebrating books, the South Philly Book Crawl also serves a greater purpose. The event is a fundraiser for Pier Players Theater Co.’s 2026 season, with ticket proceeds supporting the company’s upcoming productions. Any purchases made during the crawl go directly to the participating bookstores, making it a win-win for arts lovers and local businesses alike.
To ensure a relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience, group sizes are intentionally limited, and meet-up locations will be shared via email confirmation after ticket purchase. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available on the day of the event.
Each tour costs $15 per person, with limited spots remaining for both days.
