Zoe Ann Bryson Kanavy

OBITUARY

Zoe Ann Bryson Kanavy, 76, of Moscow, died Sunday October 19, 2025 at her home.

Born in Scranton to the late Robert W. Jr. and Mary Seaman Bryson, she was raised in Gouldsboro. Zoe Ann was a 1967 graduate of North Pocono High School. She was employed by East Stroudsburg University before her marriage in 1970 to James F. Kanavy; they celebrated 55 years of marriage on Aug. 29. She had worked for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania before becoming an insurance agent, working for Olsommer-Clarke Insurance in Hamlin, Murray Insurance in Scranton and retiring from Joyce Insurance in Pittston.

She was most proud, though, of her work as a homemaker, raising their two children and mastering many arts – crochet, embroidery, knitting, sewing, macrame, edible arrangements and gardening. She was a master in the kitchen, and her family came from miles for any gathering involving stromboli.

Raised in the Gouldsboro Methodist Church, she converted to Catholicism in 1995 and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow. She carried multiple rosaries in her purse, including on her beloved trips to Mohegan Sun and Atlantic City with her husband. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Wall-Sebring Post 374, Gouldsboro, of which her parents were charter members.

Also surviving in addition to her husband are her children, James F. Kanavy II and wife, Lisa, of Scranton; and Stephanie Zeigler and husband, Brendan, New Cumberland; sister, MaryAnn Bryson, Canadensis; brother, Robert W. Bryson III, Palmer, Alaska; five grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one infant great-great-nephew.

She was lucky to be preceded in death only by her favorite dogs.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday October 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church 220 Church Street Moscow, PA with Rev. Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor as celebrant.
