Police responding to a report of an overdose at a Moosic hotel on Jan. 18, instead found drugs, paraphernalia and ammunition in a series of hotel rooms rented by the same woman, according to a criminal complaint.
Another man is accused of providing narcotics to those at the hotel before leaving.
Angelina Marie Moore, 36, of Moosic, and Rafael Alvarez, 42, of Scranton, both face misdemeanor charges of possession with intent to deliver and related charges. Both remain in jail, unable to post bail.
According to the compliant, at about 10:30 p.m., officers responded to Townplace Suites Hotel on Radcliffe Drive on a report of an overdose in one of the rooms.
Moore told staff at the hotel that she could not access her room and feared the woman inside overdosed.
Officers were able to get into the room and noted that, although there was no one inside who had overdosed, there was a glass pipe sitting next to a “line” of white powder.”
Police found two women inside the room, both yelling that the drugs weren’t theirs. One of the woman told officers she was asleep and did not overdose. She said her purse containing her phone, wallet and identification was missing.
Hotel staff told officers Moore rented four rooms at the hotel which she said were for family and friends who wanted to use the swimming pool for a few days.
Officers began helping the woman look for her purse in another room Moore rented. There, they spotted a scale with white powder residue on the nightstand drawer, two plastic soda bottles with cloudy smoke residue and a metal pick commonly used to scrape residue in pipes.
Police found a vile of white power, a plastic baggie containing loose power, burnt tinfoil and a rock substance in yet another rented room.
Officers also found a gun in one of the rooms. A woman told officers she had the gun for protection while she travelled to Scranton for work.
Officers searched the closet in the room where the woman was staying and found a Taurus .380 black handgun containing six rounds in the magazine with an empty chamber. It was registered, but the woman didn’t have a concealed carry permit.
Officers also found 50 rounds of ammunition and additional drug paraphernalia in the room.
In addition, Police found a safe containing over $5,000 in cash in multiple denominations, bundled together in various amounts, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia in one of the rooms.
At the police station, Moore told officers Alvarez also known as “Gordo” owned narcotics found in the hotel rooms. Moore told officers Alvarez sells cocaine, heroin and fentanyl.
A staff member identified Alvarez from his photo identification.
Moosic police contacted Scranton police who found Alvarez hiding under a blanket in the back seat of a vehicle during a traffic stop.
Officers determined Alvarez was in possession of drug paraphernalia and $3,769 in cash, separated in rubber bands.
Both Moore and Alvarez have preliminary hearings scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 before District Judge Paul Keeler and remain in Lackawanna County Prison on bail. Moore’s bail is set at $25,000 and Alvarez’s at $25,000.
