The Diocese of Erie is joining Catholic schools nationwide in celebrating Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 25 until Jan. 31, 2026. The annual observance highlights the impact of faith-based education in shaping students academically, spiritually, and socially.

This year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community,” underscores the shared mission of schools, families, and parishes to foster learning rooted in Christ and service to others.

Bishop Lawrence T. Persico emphasized the unique role Catholic schools play in forming students beyond the classroom. “Our Catholic schools unite faith, learning and community, helping students grow not only in knowledge, but in their relationship with Christ,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the clergy, educators, families, and parish communities who support and enrich Catholic education throughout the region.

Jim Gallagher, superintendent for the Diocese of Erie, highlighted the formative environment Catholic schools provide. “Catholic schools are more than places of learning. They are communities rooted in faith, where students are formed academically, spiritually and morally,” he said. Gallagher noted that the partnership between families, parishes, and schools helps young people deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ while developing compassion, service, and integrity.

Catholic Schools Week will feature events across diocesan schools celebrating faith, community, and the mission of Catholic education.
