G. Richard ‘Dick’ Evans

OBITUARY

G. Richard Dick Evans, 86, of Avoca, passed away Saturday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton PA. Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Wylam Evans.

Dick retired in 2001 from McKinney Corporation after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Old Forge. Freemasonry held a special place in his life; he was a proud member of Acacia Lodge #579 F&AM in Taylor, where he recently received his 50-year pin, and he was also a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Scranton.

He found joy outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, pursuits that brought him peace and connection throughout his life. He was very fond of his grandchildren in their youth.

Those who will forever cherish his memory include his children, Donna; John (Ellen Sulika) and Michael (Marla); his granddaughters, Christine and Kelsey; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John; his dearest uncle and father figure Ben Wylam and best friend Harry Howell.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor. A Masonic funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea at a later date.
