The leader of Reading Area Community College has received recognition from a national organization.
Dr. Susan Looney, RACC president, has been nominated as a finalist for the American Association of Community Colleges’ CEO of the Year Award. She is one of five finalists, with the winner to be announced during the AACC’s annual Awards of Excellence Gala in April.
Looney took office as RACC’s sixth president in July 2018.

A former professional harness horse racer whose career was cut short by a devastating racing accident, Looney shifted gears and entered a career in education in 1998 with an appointment as an associate professor in the business department at Mohave Community College in Kingman, Ariz.
She has also held positions at Delaware Technical Community College and Colorado Mountain College.
Along with her position at RACC, Looney is the chair of the Reading Hospital Board of Trustees and serves on the boards of Berks Latino Workforce Development, Executive Committee of the United Way of Berks County, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance and the Greater Berks Development Fund. She is also vice chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges and is the vice chair and member of the Executive Committee for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Along with Looney, RACC is a finalist for an award from the AACC. The college is one of two nominees for the student success award.
