A salt truck driver escaped serious injury last weekend when the vehicle’s bed became wedged beneath the Interstate 78 overpass in Allentown, city police said.

Assistant Chief of Police Operations Michael Becker Jr. said the collision happened just before 8:15 a.m. Saturday along Lehigh Street.

The tri-axle driver was attempting to drive under the overpass when the truck’s bed became wedged underneath, Becker said.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene as crews worked to free the truck. The driver was not injured in the accident, Becker said.

Once freed, the driver drove the truck from the scene, he said.
