The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania announced in a press release on Thursday that they are looking for volunteers to step up and care for communities after disasters.

The disasters range from local home fires to hurricanes. Authorities say volunteers make up 90% of the Red Cross workforce.

Officials say on Feb. 12 the Red Cross will host a free virtual information session to discuss what it’s like to volunteer with the Red Cross and support people who are affected by disasters. The introductory session will be hosted over Zoom and allow potential volunteers to learn more about available positions and ask questions. Learn more and attend the session by visiting redcross.org/GPAvolunteer.

“For generations, people have stepped up to care for one another through the Red Cross,” said Jorge Martinez, CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania. “These deep roots in local communities are the foundation for our 24/7 work to prepare our neighbors and comfort them when the worst happens.”

During a disaster, the Red Cross works with partners to provide safe shelter, food, emergency relief supplies, emotional support, health services and financial assistance to those in need, the release says.
