Philadelphia finally got its man, as the Eagles are hiring Packers quarterback coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Kevin Patullo. After some initial disappointment and uncertainty, Mannion emerged as an intriguing and familiar name and quickly became a potential dark-horse favorite. Mannion, Jim Bob Cooter, Jerrod Johnson, and Josh Grizzard all earned second interviews, but it’ll be Mannion who looks to get the Eagles‘ offense back to its Super Bowl dominance from a year ago.
The second interview was a clear development, with no initial reports that the Eagles had offered the job to any candidates or conducted second interviews with anyone before Mannion.
A fast riser in the coaching profession, Mannion was hired to Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff as an offensive assistant working with quarterbacks under Tom Clements. LaFleur promoted Mannion to quarterbacks coach in 2025. It happened quickly because Mannion just wrapped up a nine-year playing career in 2023 after stints with the Vikings and Seahawks.
Mannion will coordinate and build the Eagles’ new offense, but there’s a chance Nick Sirianni will somehow return as the primary playcaller. Mannion gets hype for helping Jordan Love ascend into a top 10 quarterback, but it was his work with Malik Willis over the past two seasons that got the former NFL quarterback the most attention.
A career backup quarterback who’ll fully understand what Jalen Hurts is experiencing under center, Mannion has seen everything in the NFL, every system, every offense, and every defense that works to counter explosive offensive units. The 33-year-old was a 2015 third-round pick by the Rams and played quarterback under several of today’s top coaches during his journeyman career, including Sean McVay, Kevin Stefanski, Kevin O’Connell, and Klint Kubiak.
