READING, Pa. — A Florida man was convicted of first-degree murder and related charges Thursday in the deadly shooting of a man at a Berks County truck stop two years ago.
The Berks County District Attorney’s Office announced that a jury found Travis Pugh, of Jacksonville, Florida, guilty of killing James Hilton, of Southampton, New Jersey, in the parking lot at Love’s Travel Stop near Interstate 78 in Upper Bern Township on March 22, 2024.
Both men were truck drivers.
At the time, authorities said Hilton died at the scene, and Pugh fled.
Witnesses provided a description of Pugh’s vehicle, and authorities nabbed him shortly after near the Kutztown exit on I-78.
Authorities previously said there was an argument before the shooting.
Pugh’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 18. He remains locked up in the Berks County Prison.
