Old Forge graduate Joe Macciocco was fouled on a 3-point shot attempt with one second left and sank all three free throws to give the Marywood University men’s basketball team a 73-70 victory at Immaculata University on Thursday in Atlantic East Conference action.

Marywood led by as many as 21 early in the second half and had a 16-point lead with 8½ minutes left when Immaculata scored 11 straight points to spark a 19-3 run that tied the game at 70 with 56 seconds left. Marywood missed a 3-point attempt, but a Mighty Macs turnover gave the Pacers a chance for the final shot. Macciocco was fouled on his 3-point try with one second left and made the foul shots to give Marywood the win.

Macciocco led the Pacers (4-3 league, 11-7 overall) with 22 points. Shilo Bivins had a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Collin Himmelberg added 12 points and five assists and Michel Loftin contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

Women’s basketball

At Scranton, Immaculata University scored the first nine points of overtime and went on to defeat Marywood University, 73-62, on in an Atlantic East Conference women’s basketball game Thursday.

Marywood tied the game at 60 on baskets by Megan Cavoli and Alli Anstadt to force overtime. However, the Pacers managed just two points in the extra session.

The Mighty Macs improved to 7-0 in league play (15-3 overall).

Cavoli led Marywood (4-3, 9-9) with 14 points. Anstadt finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Blume added 11 points.
