PITTSBURGH — Earlier Saturday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced defenseman Kris Letang would be out for approximately four weeks with a broken foot. The team was quiet on Evgeni Malkin.

Saturday afternoon, coach Dan Muse said Malkin was a possibility to play Saturday when the Penguins host the New York Rangers in front of a national TV audience at PPF Paints Arena. In fact, Malkin is a game-time decision, and considering Muse made his comments just two hours before puck drop, that would make him truly a GTD.

Muse did not specify the nature of Malkin’s injury.

UPDATE: Following warmup, Malkin is in the lineup. He did not necessarily look to be 100% healthy, but will play. Kevin Hayes also took warmup, but will be a healthy scratch.

When in the lineup, Malkin has made an indelible impact on the lineup. In 37 games, he has 41 points, including 13 goals. His recent move to the wing has also gone well, and new linemate Egor Chinakhov is on a four-game scoring streak, with three goals.
