Allentown School District students will return to the classroom for in-person instruction Monday for the first time in more than a week.

District schools will re-open with a two-hour delay, officials announced Sunday. The Administration Center and school offices will open on time.

The two-hour delay Monday is needed to provide additional time for students to safely travel to school, according to the district.

“While conditions have improved, some roads and sidewalks remain uncleared, and additional time is needed to support safe travel,” the district said.

The district advised parents who have questions about road and sidewalk conditions on their street to contact the city of Allentown directly at 610-437-7576 or the city’s SWEEP hotline at 610-437-8729.

During a two-hour delay:

No breakfast will be served.
There will be no morning instruction at LCTI or early college at LCCC.
Bridgeview Academy will open at 10 a.m.

The district had been closed for in-person learning since a winter storm last Sunday dumped around a foot of snow on the Lehigh Valley. Virtual instruction resumed Tuesday.

On Wednesday evening, the district announced instruction would remain virtual until further notice due to poor road and sidewalk conditions around Allentown.

The district thanked its facilities workers for their efforts to clear snow around the district’s buildings.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Facilities Team for their tremendous efforts in clearing snow and ice from our buildings and grounds, and to our IT Team for being on hand to support instruction during our virtual learning days,” the district said.
