Erie County is one of 11 recipients of a grant to improve pedestrian, bicycle and transit networks.
The county got $50 thousand from the commonwealth through the WalkWorks program.
Over the next year, Erie County, along with other recipients, will collect data and figure out their goals to develop an active transportation plan.
“The WalkWorks program addresses multiple needs at the same time — expanding access to both our community and to nature,” Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen said. “Enabling more people to walk, bike, or wheel to more places while enjoying the benefits of outdoor physical activity boosts physical and mental health. This initiative is a win-win-win as physical activity, like walking, is one of the easiest ways to reduce stress and improve health.”
The goal of the program is to expand walkability, bike-ability and encourage residents to incorporate active transportation into their daily routines.
