Erie, PA. – This year’s winter storm blew through Erie, marking another season of the frozen lake. The National Ice Center reported that Lake Erie was the only Great Lake to be frozen over this year, with 95% covered in ice. This, of course, doesn’t stop Erie locals from getting out on the lake and having a good time!
Out and about!
Lots of different activities were happening on the lake this weekend. From ice fishing, to sports, to just strolling around, this frozen, icy environment stopped no one. (Bailey Clements)

Peek a boo!
While going down this walking path on the lake, a bare patch of ice can be seen. Peeking through, you would be staring right at Lake Erie while standing on it! (Bailey Clements)
Navy Ships
Sitting in the distance of the frozen lake are two giant Navy ships. Surrounded by untouched snow, these ships look massive against the icy shores. (Bailey Clements)
Waves stuck in time
On the other side of Presque Isle are the beaches of Lake Erie. While the sand gets covered by snow, the water gets roughly stopped in its tracks. The rough icy texture seen here is a result of the harsh waves. (Bailey Clements)
Ice Fishing boom!
Of course, the most popular activity right now is ice fishing. Many different tents and groups were out on the water, hoping to catch something good. (Bailey Clements)
