The bitter cold temperatures in the Lehigh Valley should come to an end this week.
Tuesday is forecast to be the first day temperatures are above freezing in the Lehigh Valley in a few weeks, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. A high of 35 is expected that day. It has not been above freezing since Jan. 23, when the high was 34, weather service data states.
Highs should be above freezing, but below 40, through at least the weekend, which should help melt the snow that remains on the ground from a storm two weeks ago. Forecasters said Monday temperatures will begin the “climb out of bitter cold conditions.”
The Lehigh Valley remains under a cold weather advisory until 10 a.m. Monday.
Today is Monday, February 9th. This afternoon is the start of our region beginning the climb out of the bitter cold conditions, which will be more noticeable on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows have largely been in the single digits, and even below 0 at times, over the past few weeks. Low temperatures will be in the teens and 20s going forward, and it should not be nearly as cold through the next several days.
Forecasters are keeping an eye on a potential system that could affect the region over the weekend.
“Looking ahead, our next system may arrive on Sunday with some milder air and also the potential for some rain and/or wintry precipitation,” meteorologists wrote Monday in their daily forecast discussion. “There is much uncertainty though with this storm including its track given high model guidance variability”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that above normal temperatures are likely over the next two weeks as well.
