An Easton resident found multiple beef sticks with sharp fish hooks inside them scattered around downtown Easton and reported them to police.

Resident Haley VanLuvanee worries an animal that finds a beef stick on the ground, especially a dog, is likely to eat it.

Sal Crisafulli, Captain of Field Services at the Easton Police Department, confirmed there is an investigation ongoing. He said a police report was filed on Sunday.

Crisafulli said the department is reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspect.

VanLuvanee found and picked up five or six of the hooks near the corner of Fourth and Northampton streets.

It’s not clear who left the items on the ground or why they were left there. VanLuvanee said some people are speculating the beef sticks are fish bait. She doesn’t believe that’s the case.

Her Facebook post on an Easton community page about the discovery is receiving attention. In the post, she warned residents to “please keep a close eye on your dogs and the ground around you.”

She said the pieces she found were placed in a line about two feet away from one another.
