For nine Penn State Health rehabilitation patients recovering from traumatic injuries – including spinal cord injury and amputation – Feb. 6 offered a different kind of therapy. Adaptive Ski Day at Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg, Pa., brought them to the slopes for a full day of skiing and snowboarding using specialized adaptive equipment, surrounded by cheers from family, friends and care teams.

The event was a collaborative effort of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital, Two Top Mountain Adaptive Sports Foundation and Ability Ottobock.care. Together, the partners helped patients push boundaries, build confidence and experience the joy of returning to an active lifestyle.
The day on the mountain served as a powerful reminder that rehabilitation can happen anywhere – even on the ski slopes.
