Wednesday will be quite the day for high school basketball fans in Berks County.

After a couple of thrilling games on Monday, including a last-second game-winning shot for Exeter, the fields are set for the boys and girls semifinals at Santander Arena in Reading.

Exeter, the BCIAA Division 2 winner and the tourney’s fifth seed, knocked off defending champion and fourth-seed Wilson 43-41 in one quarterfinal on Monday when Aidan Dauble hit the game-winning basket with 1.1 second left, while second-seed Muhlenberg squeaked past seventh-seeded Wyomissing 60-57.

In the other quarterfinal games on Monday, top-seed and Division 1 winner Berks Catholic defeated eighth-seeded Schuylkill Valley 58-42, and third-seeded Reading High rolled over sixth-seeded Antietam 69-43.

That sets up a quadruple header Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. at Santander with the Gov. Mifflin vs. Exeter girls semifinal first up. The Berks Catholic-Exeter boys semifinal is at 5:30 p.m., followed by Wilson vs. Reading High in the other girls semifinals and the night ends with Muhlenberg and Reading High in the second boys semifinal.

Monday’s boys quarterfinals
No. 5 Exeter 43, No. 4 Wilson 41

Aidan Dauble scored 16 points, including the game-winning basket with 1.1 second left, as the Eagles (15-8) knocked out the two-time defending champions.

The game was tied at 34 entering the final period, but Exeter pulled out the win by outscoring the Bulldogs 9-7. Dauble had four points, Jackson Kozik and Jayden Ware each had 2 and Braylon Reinert made a free throw. Reinert had 11 points in the game, including six in the first quarter when Exeter took a 12-11 lead after one period.

For Wilson (15-8), Peter Kelfalla scored 16 points and Michael Glover had 10. Wilson will qualify for the District 3 Class 6A tournament. The Bulldogs finished fourth in BCIAA Division 1 this year.

Exeter is trying to win its first BCIAA title. The conference was formed in the 2003-04 school year.

No. 1 Berks Catholic 58, No. 8 Schuylkill Valley 42

After going scoreless in the first quarter, All-State guard Kingston McKoy scored 29 points to lead the Saints over the Panthers.

Berks Catholic (20-2) led 12-10 after the first quarter, but McKoy scored six points and Gavin Welker had 8 of his 16 points as the Saints went to the locker room ahead 26-18.

McKoy had 10 points in the third quarter and the Saints had a 42-32 lead with one quarter to play.

For the Panthers (14-9), Josiah Urbaez, Zachary Reeser and Logan Commauf each had 10 points.

No. 3 Reading High 69, No. Antietam 43

Ten different Red Knights scored as Reading High breezed into the semifinals with a double digit win over Antietam.

Jostin DeCastro and Weshley Rosario each had 14 points for the Red Knights, the Division 1 third-place finisher who are now 17-6 overall.

Also for Reading, Jay Merriweather had 11 points and Rabin Rubio 10.

The Red Knights are trying to return to the final after reaching it last year, but losing to Wilson in the championship game. Reading High last won a BCIAA championship in 2023. The Red Knights have won 12 BCIAA titles.

Semifinal notes

• Wilson’s girls team has not lost to a BCIAA opponent since the semifinals of last year’s tournament when the Bulldogs were beaten by Gov. Mifflin. Wilson (21-2) went 12-0 in Division 1 to win the regular season title. The Bulldogs are led by Laila Jones and Kailani Hardy, who are averaging 12.1 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Wilson has had balanced scoring all season with Laura Crocona (7.8), Jade Lee (7.4), Violet Houck (6.9) and Ryan Leaman (6.8) also playing key roles.

• Wilson’s girls have not won a BCIAA title since 2014, the last of three straight titles for the Bulldogs. Reading High is the defending champion, having beaten Gov. Mifflin in last year’s title game.

• Gov. Mifflin is led by standout junior Bella Super who is averaging 19.8 points per game. The Mustangs were second in Division 1 in the regular season (10-2) with Reading High third.

• Exeter (14-9) won Division 2 with an 8-3 record and is led by sophomore Addison Harper, who is averaging 18.1 ppg.

• Exeter and Muhlenberg are each going for their first boys BCIAA title.

• The Eagles and Saints played on Jan. 8 with Berks Catholic winning 64-50. Exeter has three players averaging in doubles figures in Dauble (15.5), Ware (11.9) and Dylan Donate (11.3) with Reinert chipping in 9.9 ppg.

• Berks Catholic last won a BCIAA boys title in 2018. McKoy is averaging 21.6 ppg.
