After Wednesday night’s 8-3 shellacking at the hands of the last-place Erie Otters, Owen Sound has now allowed 221 goals in 52 games.
Only the rebuilding Saginaw Spirit comes close to matching that woeful total.
It’s unlikely the Owen Sound Attack will drop out of a playoff position late in the season, but lately the Scenic City squad hasn’t been playing like it wants to stick around long.
Owen Sound has now lost four straight games. On Wednesday night, they lost, badly, to a team that hadn’t won in regulation in 2026.
Yikes.
Things got off to a strange start.
Trenten Bennett was listed as the starting goaltender for the Owen Sound Attack, but Matthew Koprowski was between the pipes when the puck dropped.

He and the Attack allowed three goals in the first 20 minutes, including back-to-back markers in a seven-second stretch.
Bennett took the net in the second period, but things didn’t get much better for Owen Sound.
OK, a bright spot. Pierce Mbuyi, the OHL’s reigning rookie of the year and a prospect in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, netted his 27th goal of the year to open the scoring in the game. He scored with a wicked one-timer from a sharp angle. His 27 goals are the 12th most in the league.
Nicholas Sykora and Cole Zurawski, two other Attack’ers hoping to hear their names called in a few months, hit the scoresheet too, but this game was more about what was happening at the other end of the ice for the Bears.
Point night for the Otters.

Ulysses Lombardi, Luc Plante, Michael Dec and Jackson Schouten scored singles for the Pennsylvania side. Kayden Edwards and Andrew Kuzma doubled up on the scoresheet with a pair of goals apiece.
Blake Gowan recorded three assists. Only five Otters players in total were held off the scoresheet.
Three of the Otters’ goals came via the man advantage.
Erie goaltender Noah Erliden made 28 saves on 31 shot attempts.
Owen Sound will try to batten down the hatches tomorrow in St. Catharines when they take on the Niagara IceDogs inside the Meridian Centre at 7 p.m.
NOTES
OLYMPIC ALUMNI — The men’s hockey event at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy began Wednesday with a total of 41 OHL graduates included on tournament-opening rosters. Three of those alumni played in Owen Sound. Goaltender Jordan Binnington helped Owen Sound win the only OHL championship in franchise history and is expected to be Team Canada’s starter when the Canadians begin play on Thursday. Nick Suzuki recorded over 328 points in the OHL and served as a team captain with the Owen Sound Attack. He’ll suit up alongside Binnington with Team Canada. Finally, Josh Samanski, who played one season in Owen Sound and now plays for the Edmonton Oilers, will suit up for Team Germany at the Olympics.
DEC DELIVERS — Owen Sound knew when they traded Michael Dec, they were giving up a gifted offensive player. In his first full Ontario Hockey League season, the 19-year-old has 21 goals and 30 assists through 50 games, which places him in the top-30 OHL scorers. He’s found a scoring touch with the Otters, with 18 goals in 34 games, including six on the power play. Dec’s seven-game scoring streak was snapped on Feb. 7 against the Flint Firebirds. He had two goals and two assists against Owen Sound on Dec. 6, part of a six-point weekend for the Mississauga native in his return to the Scenic City.
