McCarthy Flowers, headquartered in Lackawanna County since 1952, is growing, owner and chairman Brian McCarthy announced in a news release.

McCarthy Group Florists acquired Phillip’s Flowers & Gifts, founded in 1923, which operates six flower shops throughout Elmhurst, Hinsdale, LaGrange Park, Naperville, Westmont and Wheaton — plus a 30,000-square-foot designer center — in Illinois. Derek Phillip will remain in his role as regional manager for Phillip’s, which employs more than 150 people, officials said.

McCarthy Group Florists also purchased In Bloom Florist shops in Orlando and Lake Mary, Florida, in addition to Orlando Wholesale Florist, in December, McCarthy said.

Additionally, the Scranton-based florists group purchased Peachtree Petals in Atlanta.

McCarthy Flowers now operates more than 40 retail flower shops throughout 10 states, CEO Kevin McCarthy said.
