Steve Jervis has spent more than a decade rebuilding Lackawanna Trail into a small-school state powerhouse.
During that time, he has also championed the Lackawanna Football Conference, District 2, the coaches, and the players, making cases for them to be part of Pennsylvania’s premier all-star games.
Now, the Lions’ leader will have his chance to participate in the Big 33 Football Classic.
On Friday, Jervis was selected to the staff as an assistant coach for the Pennsylvania All-Star team for the annual Memorial Day weekend event.
Berwick record-setting running back Ty’Meere Wilkerson will also represent District 2 for the 69th game presented by Renewal by Anderson of Central Pennsylvania on May 24 at Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field at 6:30 p.m.
A graduate of Tunkhannock High School and Lafayette College, Jervis started his coaching career at his alma mater.
This past season, he completed his 17th year at Lackawanna Trail, where he has a record of 136-64. Overall, Jervis has a record of 159-103. His wins rank 11th all-time among Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association coaches.
He was The Times-Tribune Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018.
Lackawanna Trail finished 12-2 in 2025 and won the LFC Division III and District 2 Class 1A championship. The Lions lost to Belmont Charter in the PIAA quarterfinals.
During his career at Lackawanna Trail, Jervis has guided the program to a second dominant run in the LFC and District 2.
Lackawanna Trail won nine LFC championships and seven District 2 Class 1A titles from 1999 to 2007 under the guidance of former coach Jeff Wasilchak.
With Jervis on the sideline, the Lions have won seven District 2 Class 1A championships, including four in a row, and a District 2 Class 2A title. They have also captured three straight LFC Division III championships.
Lackawanna Trail reached the 2018 PIAA Class 1A final and finished as the runner-up after a loss to Farrell. The Lions advanced to the PIAA Class 1A semifinals in 2019.
Gateway coach Don Holl is the lead coach for Pennsylvania. Ligonier Valley’s Roger Beitel, Annville-Cleona’s Matt Gongrich, Nativity BVM’s Pat Mason, Philipsburg-Osceola’s Jeff Vroman, Central Bucks South’s Tom Hetrick, and Brashear’s Andrew Moore are also members of the staff.
Wilkerson, a Pennsylvania Football Writers’ Class 3A all-state selection, ran for 2,851 yards and 40 touchdowns, setting Berwick single-season records. He led the Bulldogs to the District 2 Class 3A final against Scranton Prep.
