Jerry Fontana
OBITUARY
Jerry Fontana, 75, of Scranton, passed away on February 8, 2026.
Jerry was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and Johnson School of Technology. He was the owner of Fontana’s Construction Company, then went on to run and operate Amity Kitchens for over 20 years. He was a skilled craftsman who took pride in his projects, including woodworking and mechanical repair. As a boy, Jerry played baseball at Weston Field and football in high school. Musically trained on the accordion, Jerry used his knowledge to play keyboard in The Monarchs, 7 th Heaven and The Family Band at various gigs, including Cove Haven in the Poconos. Family and friends fondly called him Fudge.
He spent time at his summer home in Lake Wallenpaupack enjoying his hobbies, boating, fishing, and gardening. He was a Porsche enthusiast and owner for over 40 years.
Our family extends special thanks to the staff at Johns Hopkins’ Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion as well as Frank Fezuk for time spent keeping Jerry company while driving him back and forth for monthly treatments. Jerry was a willing participant in several clinical trials hoping to help someone in the future with a similar diagnosis.
Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, Rose Ann Bancala Fontana and Samuel Fontana, Sr. and his brother, Sammy Fontana.
Survivors include sister Jane Ann Jeremy and husband John, Wilkes Barre, Roseann Kelly and husband Joe, Clarks Summit, daughter Sara Fontana, Minooka, 10 nieces and nephews and several cousins. Jerry was especially proud of his daughter Sara’s many accomplishments and enjoyed being a hands-on father.
A private funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins’ or Eco-Friendly Memorial Tree, Plant a Tree.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Solfanelli – Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
