ERIE, Colo. (KKTV) – No arrests have been made two days after a driver hit and killed a toddler north of Denver, then fled the scene.
Erie police are urging the public to come forward with any information that can help in the investigation.
The crash happened late Sunday afternoon in a neighborhood near Mountain View Boulevard and Village Vista Drive. A passerby saw the 2-year-old lying in the road and called 911, then remained with the child until police arrived.
“Officers and emergency personnel responded immediately; however, despite life-saving efforts, the child succumbed to their injuries,” the Erie Police Department said.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from surrounding homes and found a vehicle of interest that was in the area at the time of the crash. Police said they were contact with the driver of the car but have not said if that person was the suspect they were looking for. As of Monday night, no arrests have been reported.
“We understand the community’s desire for answers. This remains an active investigation, and our priority is conducting a careful and thorough review of all available evidence to determine what occurred,” the police department said. “We continue to urge anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anything — even if it seems minor — to contact 303-441-4444. Additional information from the public may still be critical to the investigation.”
To the family, police extended their deepest sympathies.
“There are no words that can ease the pain of such a loss. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and ask the community to surround them with compassion and respect.”
