WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — A small sinkhole opened up in the south side of Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Pennsylvania American Water and UGI crews were seen near the intersection of Hanover and Carlisle Streets working on a three-foot-wide sinkhole.
The front wheel of a garbage truck broke through the two-foot-deep sinkhole. The vehicle was able to get out.
FOX56 crews were at the scene and saw water flowing into the sinkhole.
Crews told FOX56 at the scene that this is a busy time of year for sinkhole and water main break issues.
Workers also said they hope they won’t need to interrupt water service.

There may be traffic delays as crews work on repairs. The sinkhole is just near the Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital.
