It’s the latest in an ongoing overcrowding crisis at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in South Abington Township.
Earlier this year, the shelter rescued over one hundred and thirty cats from what they called an “extreme hoarding case.” Since the rescue, they have struggled to adopt out the animals, and over forty of them still remain at the shelter, contributing to its overcrowding.
Griffin Pond developmental director Sherry Crolly shares the struggles with finding homes for these cats.
“It’s not so much not finding the perfect spot, it’s finding people up for the challenge to take on that necessary acclimation time these cats will need inside of a barn, a nursery or a car garage,” she explained.
The adoption fees for these barn cats have been waived, and those at the shelter say they will provide potential adopters with the necessary steps and information for acclimating these cats, following an approved adoption application.
Through the month of October, adoption fees for all cats are 50% off for the Subaru Loves Pets event.
