SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Good news for Scranton taxpayers: The city’s 2026 operating budget will not include a tax hike.

Mayor Paige Cognetti announced the plan this week, saying strong fiscal management has allowed Scranton to hold tax rates steady for another year.

This marks the fourth time since 2021 the city has kept taxes flat.

City council will review the proposed budget by December 1, before adoption could happen by the middle of the month.
