The Pittsburgh Steelers seem open to the idea of Aaron Rodgers returning, as head coach Mike McCarthy noted in his opening press conference that he would love to reunite with his old quarterback.
Rodgers and McCarthy have stayed in contact with one another, but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is no certainty Rodgers will return. As of now, the Steelers remain ‘unsure’ if Rodgers wants to play.
“I just checked on this. The Steelers remain open to a potential Aaron Rodgers reunion, but they gotta figure it out if he wants to play or not yet. That could take months, as you pointed out,” Fowler said on Get Up.

Under McCarthy, Rodgers threw for 42,615 yards and 337 touchdowns, winning two MVPs. However, now 42, Rodgers has to decide if another year of football makes sense for him. He said after the season he was more refreshed than years past, but that does not mean he is a guarantee to return.
Rodgers mulled retirement last offseason after two terrible seasons with the New York Jets following his Hall of Fame-caliber 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He joined Pittsburgh on a one-year contract in June 2025.
If he does come back, Rodgers will solve the Steelers’ quarterback question this offseason, but it seems unlikely they will wait as long as they did a year ago for Rodgers without assurances he will play.
