Jackie C. Scherer
OBITUARY
Jackie C. Scherer, 61, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Teays Valley Center in Hurricane, West Virginia.
Born in Reading, PA on March 30, 1964, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Lorraine P. Scherer. Jackie was a 1982 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. She was also the wife of the late Gary L. Elder who passed away in late 2014. A long time employee of Cabell County Schools, Jackie loved going to the beach and all of the concerts she went to with her friends over the years. Jackie loved contributing to bettering the lives of her community.
She is survived by her son, Dylan, and daughter-in-law, Hannah. Jackie was the youngest of 11 children. She is survived by her sisters Alicia, Tina, Debbie, Jennifer, Lori, her brother Bob (and his wife Aimee), and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Jackie was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Peter, and sisters, Nancy and Patricia. Jackie also had many family and friends in Huntington, West Virginia where she lived for many years.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Laureldale Cemetery Chapel 4641 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Jackie’s name to Dementia Society of America.
