If you tend to spend most of your vacations getting lost in the pages of your latest book, then maybe your next trip should revolve entirely around reading. That can become a reality when you head to The Bookhouse at Faunbrook, a book-themed boutique hotel, in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Originally built in the 1860s, the property was previously home to the Darlington Family before the Italianate-style mansion was transformed into the book-inspired boutique hotel 260 years later.

Reading Rooms

The three-level hotel features a library, parlor, a tea room — which is set to open this spring — and seven different rooms inspired by classic books and authors. Rooms include:

The Darlington Suite, named after the family that originally owned the historic home

Daisy’s Room, inspired by The Great Gatsby

Jane’s Room, inspired by author Jane Austen

Alice’s Suite, an Alice in Wonderland room

Burnett’s Studio, inspired by The Secret Garden

Rose’s Room, inspired by Oliver Twist

The Dreamer’s Quarters, inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Some amenities are unique to each room — like a marble fireplace, claw-foot tub, and secret reading nooks. But all guests can enjoy complimentary WiFi, a private bathroom with toiletries, and hotel slippers. The Bookhouse at Faunbrook  also partners with Longwood Gardens and Taste of Local Food Tours to provide discounted tickets.

Guests can escape into one of the hundreds of books located in each room. When you decide to take a book break, take a peek inside the guestbook. It provides a list of activities, restaurants, and shopping destinations around town.

Six of the seven rooms accommodate two guests; Alice’s Suite can accommodate up to four guests. Room prices start at $200 to $300 per night.

More Book-Able Accommodations

If The Bookhouse at Faunbrook is full, prospective guests can also consider staying at the hotel’s original location, The Bookhouse Hotel. Located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, the two sister hotels are less than 11 miles apart.

The Bookhouse’s historic building was previously a bookstore. It became a book-themed hotel in 2022. The four-room abode houses more than 5,000 books. Room prices at The Bookhouse start at $200 per night.

For those that can’t get enough of the bookish destination, the hotel also has a book club. Members of the book club get a new book shipped to them every three months, along with curated themed gifts. Membership is $99 per quarter or $350 yearly. It includes discounts for hotel stays, invites to author Q&As, and priority access and discounts to the hotel’s annual Book Ball.
