Kingston McKoy scored 18 points and Carmelo Harper added 16 as defending district champion Berks Catholic rolled to a 62-35 win over Schuylkill Valley in the semifinals of the District 3 Class 4A boys basketball tournament at Berks Catholic on Tuesday night.

The top-seeded Saints (24-2) will play second-seeded Bishop McDevitt (21-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Garden Spot High School for the district title.

The Panthers (15-10) will play Big Spring for third place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schuylkill Valley. In the fifth place game on Thursday, Wyomissing hosts Oley Valley with the winner of that game advancing to the state playoffs.

Both Berks Catholic and Schuylkill Valley qualified for the PIAA tournament by making the district semifinals. District 3 advances five teams to the state tourney in 4A.

The Saints jumped to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter as Harper had 7 points, including a 3-pointer.

The Panthers clawed back into the game, cutting it to 3 at one point, and trailed 30-22 at halftime.

They only scored 4 points in the third quarter, as Berks Catholic had a 20-4 edge in the quarter with McKoy getting 8 points.

The Saints have won 18 straight games with their last loss to Reading High, 48-40, on Dec. 29.

For the Panthers, Alex Aletras had 11 points and Zachary Reeser 10.
