Six hours after City of Pittsburgh SWAT responded to a residence on the 3200 block of Cato Street and Juliet Street on Monday night, the University has announced the area is cleared.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department confirmed an adult male was taken into custody at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The area was officially cleared of police presence at 6:47 a.m.
According to a Pittsburgh Public Safety Department Facebook post, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police responded to an incident “regarding an individual with outstanding warrants” at approximately 7:30 p.m. The situation escalated when the suspect barricaded himself inside a residence on Juliet Street.
At 11:06 p.m., the University issued an emergency notification system alert stating there was a “large police presence in the area.” The University confirmed the presence of SWAT officers at the scene at 11:26 p.m. and advised community members to avoid the area until further notice.
Roads in the immediate vicinity were closed, including Juliet Street, Hardie Way, Ward Street, and Cato Street, between the Boulevard of the Allies and Frazier Street.
Multiple students living in the vicinity were reported to have been evacuated from adjacent residences.
