PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — FedEx is closing a facility in Pittston and plans to file a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the state on Friday.
The company said Thursday 63 employees are affected and were previously made aware of the changes.
David Westrick with FedEx media relations department told FOX56 that over the past three years, the company has been undergoing a significant transformation called “Network 2.0,” which will bring changes to package pickup, transport and delivery.
“This initiative aims to simplify service with a ‘one van, one neighborhood’ model, enhancing efficiency and customer experience. As part of this strategy, FedEx is closing the Pittston facility. These decisions are never made lightly. We’re committed to supporting impacted employees through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance,” said Westrick in an emailed statement.
Westrick said many of the affected employees will be offered other roles within the company. The facility at 1000 Sathers Dr. will close in early May.
