Star City Boxing has received a $50,000 state grant to help the nonprofit continue its mission.
The organization, which trains athletes of all skill levels and gives youth the chance to adopt healthy habits while building confidence, was awarded the funds through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz on Wednesday presented officials from the organization with a check, which she helped secure.
Star City Boxing will use the funds to support its operations, purchase new equipment and expand its participation in regional and national tournaments. This comes as gym member Eric Martinez prepares for his first professional fight.
