WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. (WFMZ) — About 30 fire departments between New York City and Washington D.C. came out to Pints and Pies Pub in Wilson Borough to support injured firefighter Bobby Lewullis.
It was one week ago that Lewullis was seriously injured after he fell 20 feet from a ladder while battling a massive fire in downtown Easton.
He’s back home this week but has months of recovery ahead of him.
Logan Schwartz and Matt Sadrovitz are co-founders of Fireman Friday’s and organized the fundraiser to help Lewullis with medical bills.
“Bobby’s been a good friend of ours for a while. I’ve known Bobby as a fireman for about five or six years at this point. All around he’s a great fireman, he’s a great dude. You see somebody going through a tough time like this so it hits home especially in the first responder community,” Schwartz told 69 News.
Sadrovitz said Fireman Friday’s is all about brothers helping brothers.
“We’re out here helping another fire fighter, trying to make sure he gets back on his feet, get him back to the job, doing what we all love to do,” Sadrovitz stated.
Lewullis’s mom, Sandra Rogers, told us there was a line out the pub as early as 10:45 Friday morning.
“We had people stop in cars and hand money to other people that said go in and donate this money when you get in there,” Rogers said.
Rogers says she met firefighters who came out to show their support from Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Maryland and D.C.
“Everybody that’s out here, all of these guys inside, outside, people that couldn’t be here, just know that from the bottom of our hearts we thank every one of you,” Rogers concluded.
