HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — A number of state and local politicians from both sides of the aisle have reacted to the United States’ and Israel’s joint military operation on Iran on Saturday morning.
This story will be updated as more state politicians make comments on the airstrikes.
Sen. John Fetterman
U.S. Sen. John Fetterman posted on X shortly after the attacks that president Donald Trump “has been willing to do what’s right and necessary to produce real peace in the region.”
He later made a post distancing himself from other Democrats, who have urged congress to vote on war powers resolutions following the strikes in Iran.
Sen. Dave McCormick
U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick argued that Iran has had the opportunity for a nuclear deal, but the nation has “rejected a path to peace and prosperity.”
In an X post, McCormick said Iran is “the world’s number one sponsor of terror.”

Rep. Scott Perry
U.S. Rep. Scott Perry (R-10) urged the people of Iran to “take back your government” following the airstrikes.
Perry wrote on X: “TO THE PEOPLE OF IRAN: The hour of your freedom has arrived. Your destiny is in your hands. TAKE BACK YOUR GOVERNMENT, AND RETURN PERSIA.”
Rep. Dan Meuser
U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser (R-9) said the U.S. stands at “the threshold of a historic turning point” in its relationship with Iran and the Middle East.
“Now, through resolute action by the United States and Israel, we are drawing a firm line, offering the Iranian people and the broader Middle East a genuine opportunity for freedom, stability, and peace,” Meuser said on X.
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) condemned the strikes on Iran, arguing that the U.S. should avoid “another senseless war.”
“‘No new wars’ was a central plank of Trump’s campaign and yet again he lied,” Kenyatta said in a statement. “But more concerning is the clear illegality of these actions, which drag us into conflict without a single vote of Congress.”
Sen. Doug Mastriano
State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Adams, Franklin) shared a segment of an interview he had with the Right Side Broadcasting Network on X.
In the interview, Mastriano said he wasn’t surprised about the operation and hopes to see U.S. troops return home safely.
Treasurer Stacy Garrity
State treasurer Stacy Garrity, who is running to be Pennsylvania’s governor in 2026, said she stands with the U.S. military. She also spoke in support of the Iranian people.
“My heart is also with the people of Iran who are courageously seeking freedom and basic human rights in the face of oppression,” Garrity said on X. “The Iranian people deserve dignity, opportunity, and the ability to determine their own future.
