Katie Gallandorm

OBITUARY

Katie Gallandorm was born and raised in Johnson City, TN. Following her graduation from high school, she worked for Bechtel Power Corp. in Gaithersburg, MD. After her marriage in 1973, she moved to Suitland, MD and in 1974 to Gales Ferry, CT. In 1975 she gave birth to her daughter Edith and shortly thereafter moved to her husband’s hometown of Scranton, PA. In 1993 she became one of the initial employees of Boscov’s Department Store in Steamtown Mall in Scranton and then Macy’s in the Viewmont Mall where she was employed until her retirement. She was a long-time member of Court Street United Methodist Church where she held several positions and was actively involved in the United Methodist Women. She spent her life serving those around her, dedicated to her family and her church. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed long car rides. Katie was always prepared to give hugs to whomever wanted one or didn’t.

Several years after her retirement she moved to Midlothian, VA to be near her daughter Edith and grandchildren Vex and Celia Smith, who survive her. Edith would like to acknowledge the dedication, love, and support of her father, George W. Gallandorm. Preceding her in death was her sister Cherie Gibson and brothers Rex and Gene Hoilman. Katie lived with Gene, his wife Charlotte, and their son Danny and daughter Susie when she relocated to Maryland following her graduation. Also surviving her are sisters Christine Holly, Pam France, and Ellen Neal and brothers Paul and George, all of Jonesboro, TN.

Her internment will be held on a future date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (https://secure.pva.org) or Planned Parenthood (https://www.weareplannedparenthoodaction.org) .
