Five people were displaced and one firefighter was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a blaze in the city Monday afternoon, Scranton Assistant Fire Chief Brian Scott said.

Crews responded to 527 Crown Ave. around 1:30 p.m. and encountered heavy fire in the rear of the structure, Scott said.

The rear of the single-family dwelling sustained a lot of fire damage, but crews had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Scott added.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents as the house has been condemned, Scott said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Scranton Fire Department, Scott said.
