The Berks County Workforce Development Board has been awarded a $200,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry to expand employment and training services for veterans and their spouses.

Local officials said the funding will enhance programming at PA CareerLink Berks County, strengthening the county’s ability to connect veterans and their families with sustainable employment opportunities. Through the Veterans Employment Assistance Program, the board will focus on targeted outreach, barrier reduction and partnership-driven supports designed to empower veterans as they transition to or advance within the civilian workforce.

The initiative will use data-informed strategies and coordinate with community partners providing housing, food security and mental health resources to ensure veterans and their spouses have comprehensive support. By addressing both employment needs and external barriers, officials said the program seeks to promote long-term stability and equitable access to economic opportunity.

“This grant represents an important investment in the men and women who have served our nation,” said Amber Colombo, director of the Berks County Workforce Development Board. “By expanding access to employment and training services, we can better support veterans and their spouses in securing meaningful, sustainable careers while helping meet the growing workforce demands here in Berks County.”

Officials said the grant reflects the county’s ongoing dedication to honoring its veteran community by creating clear pathways to opportunity and success.
