READING, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say they arrested Derrick Raker after an investigation covering many townships in our area.
Investigators say Derrick Raker searched obituaries online, found the addresses of the deceased, and then broke into those homes while families were grieving. He is suspected of burglarizing homes in Lower Alsace, Brecknock, Ruscombmanor, Longswamp, Muhlenberg, Rockland and Exeter townships, as well an additional burglary in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County.
“Derrick Raker was charged with eight counts of burglary, nine counts of persons not to possess firearms, eight counts of criminal trespass and theft. These charges stemmed from an investigation between June to September of 2025,” said Trooper Ethan Brownback.
Police say he targeted cash, jewelry, collectibles and guns.
“Raker searched hundreds of obituaries all over eastern Pennsylvania. These obituaries occurred in multiple townships within Berks County and one in Lebanon County,” Brownback said.
Police say the case started after Muhlenberg Township officers arrested him during a burglary in progress late last year. From there, troopers say the investigation expanded.
“Very unfortunate, very sad crimes to be committed, especially with families out there who are currently grieving for the passing of their loved ones,” Brownback said.
Troopers say there may be additional victims.
“Due to the large scope of Raker’s searches, it is believed that additional victims will be discovered,” Brownback said.
Raker’s bail is set at one million dollars secured.
