The Erie City Mission is teaming up with a local non-profit to make sure families and their furry friends don’t go without.
On Monday, neighbors were able to pick up free pet food and toys during the community lunch thanks to a new partnership.

The Erie City Mission partnered with Avery’s Pawsitive Change to distribute free pet food, treats and toys to families in need.
Organizers said when families are struggling financially, pet care costs can quickly add up, and that can put added stress on already tight budgets.
Leaders said caring for the whole family includes caring for the animals that bring comfort and companionship.

“A lot of the folks we serve are making the choice between food, medication, rent, right? So often the pets get left out, so this will be a nice way for us to support our neighbors coming to us for food to also be able to provide food for their pets,” said Brian Johansson, CEO of the Erie City Mission.
The partnership will happen every first monday of the month. Organizers said they hope to continue similar events in the future as community needs grow.
