Dr. Gordon S. Perlmutter
OBITUARY
Dr. Gordon S. Perlmutter, M.D., F.A.C.R., 86, of Wyomissing, a beloved physician, devoted family man, and respected member of the community, passed away on February 27, 2026, at Tower Health/Reading Hospital. Born in Burlington, VT, on March 20, 1939, he was the oldest son of the late Simon and Esther (Moskovitz) Perlmutter.
Gordon graduated from Burlington High School and went on to earn both his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed his internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he met his wife Carol, and his residency in radiology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He later served in the U.S. Public Health Service before entering private practice.
Throughout his distinguished career, Gordon practiced at West Reading Radiology Associates and Reading Hospital, where he built deep professional relationships and earned the respect of colleagues and patients alike. Widely published in his field, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and served as president of the Pennsylvania Radiologic Society. He retired in 2001.
A lifelong learner with many interests, Gordon was an engaged member of Kesher Zion Synagogue and a dedicated supporter of the Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks. He also participated actively in the World Affairs Council of Greater Reading. Outside of his professional and community work, he was an avid traveler and scuba diver, enjoyed photography, and loved dabbling with technology. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Carol Perlmutter, of Wyomissing; his children and their spouses, Michael and Cheryl Perlmutter of Chesterfield, MO, and Andrew Perlmutter and Marianna Lvovsky of Washington, DC; his siblings Grace Harris of Lutz, FL, Dr. Lawrence and Wendy Perlmutter of Slingerlands, NY, and Rabbi Saul Perlmutter and Shoshana Zonderman of Northampton, MA; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place at Kesher Zion Synagogue, 555 Warwick Dr., Wyomissing, PA, on March 4, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by interment at Kesher Zion Cemetery, 1051 Philadelphia Avenue, Shillington, PA.
