PITTSBURGH, PA — The owners of a popular Pittsburgh tavern have apologized after a video was posted online of a large rat underneath its beer taps.

The incident occurred at The Urban Tap on East Carson Street in the city’s South Side.

The bar’s owners called the situation unacceptable and said they will not minimize, deflect or make excuses for what occurred.

“If you’re upset or disappointed, we understand,” a post on the bar’s Facebook page stated.“We would be too.”

The bar post stated that the moment the rodent incident occurred, additional professional rodent control services were hired.

“We conducted a full inspection of the building with the Allegheny Health Department, reinforcing all possible entry points, increasing monitoring, and tightening our sanitation and nightly procedures.”

The Urban Tap attributed the issue to construction behind its building that has increased rodent activity in the area.

“That context matters — but it does not excuse what happened,” the post stated.
