PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — One of the country’s oldest newspaper publications — the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette — is officially set to close in the coming months.
According to a WARN notice from the Department of Labor and Industry, the upcoming closure of the Post-Gazette is expected to impact over 170 employees.
Earlier this year, the newspaper’s parent company — Block Communications Inc. — corroborated reports that the publication would print its final edition on May 3rd.
According to local reports, Post-Gazette employees just recently returned to work following a three-year strike over contract disputes.
Ownership claimed that the publication had reportedly lost the company over $350 million in the past two decades.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was originally founded in 1786.
