The City of Brotherly Love is one of the five places that could host the Democratic National Convention in 2028.
On March 2, DNC officials announced that Philadelphia, along with Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Denver, had advanced in the application process to host the convention.
“The DNC is proud to be moving forward with our 2028 Democratic National Convention plans, another critical step toward retaking the White House and finally putting an end to Republicans’ betrayal of working families,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in the announcement.

“We look forward to celebrating our future nominees on the national stage and highlighting Democrats’ commitment to building a better, safer, and more affordable future for our country.”
According to DNC officials, some features they’re seeking in a host city are:
A city that has a strong partnership with the DNC in terms of community, politics and business leaders.
A city whose residents share Democratic values.
A city that is prepared to utilize new and innovative approaches in response to challenges and opportunities that arise from hosting the convention.
Each city will receive a site visit in the spring from DNC leaders and technical advisory representatives to assess the logistical and operational components.
Philadelphia last hosted the DNC in 2016 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena, which was then-called the Wells Fargo Center. The convention was where Hillary Clinton was chosen as the party’s nominee for the presidential election against Donald Trump.
The upcoming Democratic National Convention is to be held Aug. 7-10, 2028.
