PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh-area man is facing criminal charges after allegedly bringing an injured parakeet to a Greensburg bar.

Timothy Grace, 40, of Greensburg, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, animal cruelty, neglect of animals, and transporting animals in a cruel manner.

According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, police responded to Callaghan’s Bar on South Main Street in late February after reports of an intoxicated man with an injured parakeet.

The man allegedly was telling other patrons that the parakeet smokes marijuana and drinks beer daily.

According to the district attorney’s office, Grace was heavily intoxicated and admitted the bird belonged to him. The bird appeared to have a broken leg.

Police learned Grace took the bird into the bar by putting it in his pocket.

The bird was taken to a local animal hospital where it was treated for a broken leg and said to be underweight and weak.
