READING, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are ramping up enforcement efforts across I-78, and many local drivers say it’s long overdue.
“They need to. 78, it’s like a death trap,” said Anna Hicks of Hamburg.
On Wednesday, October 22, State Police launched a one-day crackdown called Operation Triple Coverage, targeting aggressive driving, speeding, and drug offenses in Berks, Lebanon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties.
During the operation, troopers issued:
334 citations
Over 100 warnings
1 DUI arrest
$120,000 in cash seized connected to illegal activity
4 drug-related arrests
5 arrests for outstanding warrants
1 commercial truck placed out of service
“Nothing surprises me,” Hicks added.
According to troopers, the enforcement focused on this corridor of I-78 due to alarming trends over the past year.
